Sora no Otoshimono is an anime that should not be taken seriously. If one couldn't gather from the cover picture for this anime, Sora no Otoshimono heavily involves ecchi and lots of comedy. Though this review won't be long due to the length of this series and the sheer fact that there is nothing to state about except for the randomness of this anime.
Animation
Well, when it came to animation for this anime... how do I put it... well honestly, it was unique. Never have I ever seen flying panties before (thats right... flying panties!!). But as far as backgrounds and art style are concerned, this is nothing but ordinary, if not below average. Trust me... the reason one determines to watch this series is not for the animation but for other reasons that are obvious, which in most cases would be for the ecchi. Ironically enough, due to what kind of show this is, there is
. You would assume this show would have boats load of ecchi accompanied with nudity, but that isn't the case for this. I guess we gotta wait for the DVDs when they come out, because there was censoring (though little).
Sound
I thought sound was decent as odd as that might seem considering what kind of show this is. Aside from the ecchi, I think sound was probably the 2nd best thing about Sora no Otoshimono, but then I guess that also depends on people's view on music. But it seemed to me that every ending song was something different which I appreciate... it shows me that the animators or whoever determined how this anime should go down, put that much more effort into this anime.
Story
When it comes to a purely ecchi/comedy anime, when do you actually take the plot seriously? Of course, that is the case for this anime as well.
Sora no Otoshimono is about a high school kid (Sakurai Tomoki) that is outside during one random night and Ikaros (the Pet Angel) comes randomly crashing down to Earth. At first Tomoki is scared and runs away from the scene, but eventually runs back to Ikaros and its that moment that Ikaros determines that Tomoki will be her master. It is from this moment that Tomoki becomes truly perverted. Ikaros has these cards that allow any wish, so Tomoki becomes invisible or anything like that to get a look at a girl changing. This is pretty much 85% of this anime series. However, the way that this anime is portrayed is hilarious.
Also, Ikaros has no common sense and is like a doll with zero emotions, so when Tomoki would give her an order, Ikaros would usually mis-interpret and cause trouble for other people usually Tomoki, but this part of the anime series was gold because it was so funny or at least I thought it was.
Even though there is almost no plot other than a teenage boy doing what any teenage boy would do at his age, but because of the ecchi and comedy, I really did not care about the missing plot because I was entertained else where.
Character Development
Ikaros- This is the main female lead in this anime. She is a pet angel that has no common sense nor emotions. The only thing she cares about is being together with her master.
Sakurai Tomoki- This is the main male lead in this anime. He is very perverted and becomes the master of Ikaros. Tomoki tries to make Ikaros more human and thus puts her in human situations, like dates, going to school, making friends, and other things such as this. What I love about this character is when the animators put him in puppet form, because it makes him doing his perverted things that much funnier... I just love the facial expressions when he is in puppet form. If you are confused about what I am talking about, you have to watch at least the first episode to see what I am referring to.
Mitsuki Sohara- She is a childhood friend of Tomoki and like how it always goes with girl childhood friends... she has a crush on Tomoki. Tomoki is always doing perverted things to Sohara.
Sugata Eishirou- This guy is obsessed with finding the "New World" and he believes the new world is where Ikaros came from. This guy really has no impact in this anime series, but does make the show funnier from time to time.
Satsukitane Mikako- She is very determined in getting Tomoki into trouble with other girls or just in harms way. This sounds bad, but its done in a hilarious way though.
Nymph- Lastly is the other angel that has an attitude. However, the difference between Nymph and Ikaros is the fact that Nymph has emotions and common sense.
Overall, there really isn't much development between these characters. I guess the biggest development would be between Ikaros and Tomoki, because at first Tomoki isn't too crazy about taking care of Ikaros, but as this anime goes along, warms up to her.
Value
This will differ from person to person, because some might think that ecchi/comedy anime is crap while others will think its worth their time to watch. As far as what I thought about the value of this series, I thought it was funny as hell and well worth my time. Also, its only 13 episodes, so its not that long... but I wish this series was longer than 13 episodes, cause I enjoyed it alot. Plus, I don't tend to shy away from ecchi type anime, so I guess my tolerance level towards ecchi anime is higher than some people. But don't get me wrong, I also love great animes that have meaningful plots, great animations, and good characters which this series was lacking in. However, I think the whole goal for this anime series was for ecchi/comedy.
Enjoyment
If it wasn't made clear from the above paragraph... I enjoyed this series alot and kinda hope there is a 2nd season, because there was enough material for another season.
Overall
If you are into ecchi/comedy anime, then this is for you, because you will die laughing, well at least I did. Based on how I enjoyed this anime, I would
this anime. For those that don't particularly care for ecchi anime, then stay away from this.
